Good presentation
It's worth noting that the actual removal of the protruding disc is called "microdiscectomy" and it is this that causes the relief of pain. The laminectomy / otomy allows for the microdiscectomy.

That was quite helpful - good summary and didn't know about laminectomy. Do they protect the spinal cord somehow after the op or just leave it covered by overlying tissues?
